Racing returns to Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) on May 16-17 with the Peach State Classic. Fans learned on Monday during Speed51’s “The Bullring” which divisions will fill out the weekend of racing, as the Wheel Man Racing Series and Pro Trucks will join the event and compete on Saturday, May 16.
The announcement came via Speed51 President Bob Dillner on the morning talk show, who is promoting the event alongside Tim Bryant of the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco. The Southern Super Series is co-sanctioning the Super Late Model feature on May 17, while the Modifieds of Mayhem will also be in action that Sunday.
“We know the Southern Super Series and the CARS Tour is going to sanction the Super Late Model portion of the event at Gresham Motorsports Park,” Dillner began. “We know the Modifieds of Mayhem are going to battle on the half-mile. We now have our Saturday events scheduled as well.
“It will be the Wheel Man Series out of Florida coming up and doing battle for 50 laps, as well as the Trucks. The Trucks will carry the same rules you see when the Pro Trucks run at Five Flags Speedway. So it’ll be Wheel Man and Trucks on Saturday, Modifieds and Supers on Sunday, May 16 and 17.”
2019 Wheel Man Series Champion Patrick Thomas was also on “The Bullring” ahead of the series’ season opener at New Smyrna Speedway on Saturday, February 8, and he was very excited to hear the news about going to Gresham.
“That’s exciting,” Thomas said. “To be honest with you, we heard about a month or so ago it was a possibility but I had heard some other news through the grapevine that maybe we weren’t. That news coming out this morning while I was listening was neat. I’ve already texted a lot of people with Sportsman cars, and everyone seems super excited.
“We are real excited to go to a big track, even as far away as that is from our home base here. There’s going to be 25 cars, I bet, at that race.”
An open test for the May 16-17 event will take place on April 18, open to all divisions competing at an affordable rate of $200 per car.
Further details regarding purse, other activities and more during the Peach State Classic will be made available soon.
