Racing will make its much-anticipated return to Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) on May 16-17, featuring the Super Late Models of the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco and the CARS Solid Rock Carriers Tour. That event now has a name proudly celebrating the venue’s history and heritage.
Gresham will play host to the Peach State Classic, which will include the Modifieds of Mayhem, the Wheel Man Racing Series and Trucks along with the Super Late Models. It will mark the first stock car race held at the track since August 9, 2014.
This promotion of the race is a partnership between Bob Dillner of Speed51 and Tim Bryant of the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco. Together, they will be working closely with Jim Gresham, who owns Gresham Motorsports Park. Micky Cain will also be part of the management group for the event.
The Peach State Classic name is not only an homage to the proud history of the state, but also a tribute to one of the former names of the venue, Peach State Speedway.
“We had a bunch of names on the table and they all involved peaches,” said Bob Dillner, President of Speed51. “My daughter raced at the old Peach State track and Speed51 covered many races at the old track. Ultimately, it was Tim and my wife Angie that made the call on this one.
“It’s a tribute to rich racing history in the state of Georgia. It’s going to make one heckuva trophy and I know there will be plenty of peaches around the midway and in victory lane that weekend.”
The Peach State Speedway name dates back to the 1990s, and remained until Gresham purchased the speedway in 2009.
Underneath Gresham’s ownership, the facility underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2009 and was renamed Gresham Motorsports Park.
An open test for the event will take place on April 18, open to all divisions competing at an affordable rate of $200 per car.
Further details regarding purse and other activities during the Peach State Classic on May 16-17 will be made available soon.
The Wheel Man Racing Series Sportsman competitors and the Trucks will race on Saturday, May 16. The Modifieds of Mayhem and the Super Late Models will race on Sunday, May 17.
